Short answer: you need the dMAT (digital Master Test) if you apply from India for a master's programme starting in the summer semester 2027 or later and your previous degree is in engineering; commerce, accounting, finance or economics; or business and management. It costs €150, takes about 3.5 hours on a computer at a g.a.s.t. test centre in India, and its result is shown on your APS certificate. A low score does not automatically mean the APS certificate is refused.

Dates
The first cycle: registration 29 June – 15 September 2026, test on 26 September 2026, certificates online from 12 October 2026. Later dates are published in the g.a.s.t. test centre search; check there before planning your APS timeline, because the dMAT certificate is part of your APS documents.
How it fits into APS
- Register for a test date with g.a.s.t. and pay €150.
- Take the test at the test centre you booked.
- Send your APS documents. If your dMAT certificate is ready, send it with them. If not, send the APS documents first and the dMAT certificate when it is available.
- APS certificate: your dMAT result is shown on it. It does not replace APS document verification, and a low score alone does not lead to a refusal.
Then continue with admission, the blocked account and the visa: see the full India to Germany route.
