What this does: answer a few questions and get your own dated to-do list for the first months in Germany, with the two legal deadlines marked: registering your address within two weeks of moving in, and applying for your residence permit before your visa expires. Download it as a calendar file with a reminder two days before each date.
The example dates are placeholders: use the date on your visa sticker. Leave the move-in date empty if you move straight into your permanent home. If your first place is temporary, the two-week registration deadline starts when you move into the permanent one.
Your plan
How the dates are worked out
- Legal deadlines: address registration within two weeks of moving in (§ 17 Federal Registration Act); residence permit applied for before your visa expires (§ 81 Residence Act).
- Recommendations: everything else, such as asking for a residence-permit appointment about eight weeks ahead, because offices in big cities are busy.
- Privacy: the planner runs entirely in your browser. Your dates are not sent anywhere or saved; the calendar file is created on your device.
General information, not legal advice. Your immigration office can set different requirements for your case.
